About the Author

Lavinia Edmunds is a writer who is exploring farming communities and how they contribute to our economy, to our environment and to our food. She has written for newspapers and magazines ranging from Reader’s Digest and Johns Hopkins magazine to Ms and Midatlantic Country. She enjoys the practice of long-form journalism, which proceeds in depth at a more leisurely pace than tweets and media alerts. She currently teaches writing at Towson University. She has a Masters degree in journalism from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.

The Baltimore resident grew up in Halifax County, Virginia, where her family has owned property for generations. She is interested in regenerative agriculture, which is rejuvenating the farmland around her home and other farms in the region. They are growing organic soybeans, sunflowers, and other crops that are enriching the soil and, bringing in a profit.
